Instructional Activities
- Power Electronics (Missouri S&T)
- Assistant Professor, spring 2010
- This is a senior/graduate-level course on the fundamentals of switching power conversion. There is also an accompanying lab that Dr. Kimball teaches.
- Power Converter Design and Modeling (Missouri S&T)
- Assistant Professor, spring 2009
- This is a graduate-level course on integrating many aspects of power electronics into a complete design.
- Electromechanics (Missouri S&T)
- Assistant Professor, spring 2008, fall 2008, fall 2009
- This is a junior-level, semi-required course in electromechanics and electric machines. Dr. Kimball also supervises the TA for the corresponding laboratory.
- Power Circuits and Electromechanics (Illinois)
- Visiting Lecturer, spring 2004, spring 2006, spring 2007
- This is a junior-level gateway course in three-phase circuits, power flow, electromechanics, and electric machinery. For 2006 and 2007, Mr. Kimball was the lead instructor.
- Future Energy Challenge (Illinois)
- Visiting Lecturer, fall 2004 (FC1) and spring 2005 (FC2)
- Advised a team of students that competed in the International Future Energy Challenge. The team chose the motor topic, which required the design and construction of a 500 W adjustable speed motor/drive combination. Students who completed both semesters received credit for senior design.
- Introduction to Object-Oriented Simulation of Drives
- P.L. Chapman and J.W. Kimball, May 2005
- Presented at International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC).
